Does the VA Pay for Hospice Care at Home?
If you meet the requirements for hospice care, the VA will work closely with 3HC to establish hospice care in the home. Hospice care is part of the VHA standard medical benefits package. All enrolled veterans are eligible if they meet the clinical need for hospice services.
If you’re still wondering about the costs involved or if the VA pays for hospice care at home, there are no copays for hospice care, whether it is provided by the VA or an organization with a VA contract.

What Are the VA Requirements to Receive Hospice Care?
Does the VA pay for hospice care at home? In order for a veteran to receive hospice home care benefits, they must meet the following criteria:
- Have six months or less to live
- Have a terminal illness
- Is no longer seeking treatment (outside of palliative or “comfort” care)
Remember that these services can be provided wherever the veteran calls home, whether that is a nursing home, skilled nursing facility, assisted living facility, hospital or their private residence.
